CLEAPSS Documents
If you find that accessing any of our PDF documents via your web browser causes nothing more than a blank page to be displayed then please try the following suggestions.
Try right clicking the hyperlink for the file that you want and select 'Save Target As...' from the pop up menu. Save the file to your hard disk or network then try opening the saved copy of the PDF by double clicking its icon. If the file displays OK via this method then the file is OK but your browser is having trouble displaying PDF documents.
The web browser plug-in that displays PDF files in your web browser window may be confused as a result of running a different version of Adobe Reader installed on your computer to the version provided on our CD-ROM. Try running the installed copy of Reader via your 'Start menu' button that is normally in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. You may get a message ... 'You cannot currently view Adobe PDF files from within your web browser due to a configuration problem. Would you like Acrobat to fix the problem?'. Answer 'Yes' if you cannot view PDFs via your web browser. If you do not get this message then try running the CLEAPSS CD-ROM and seeing if you get the message then.
Another suggestion that has been made is to have Reader open in the background when opening PDF documents via the web site.
You may also try going to ‘Edit’ then ‘Preferences’ then ‘Internet’ on the left (‘Internet’ in versions 6 and 7 but under ‘Options’ in version 5, as on the CD-ROM) in Adobe Reader and untick the ‘Display PDF in Browser’ check box. You may have to do this in both the installed copy of Adobe Reader and on the CD-ROM version. When you then click on a PDF hyperlink it should open Adobe Reader with the document and not display the PDF in the browser window. You may have to restart the computer for these preference changes to take effect.
